Game Masters

Deep Space is hosted by a variety of Game Masters.  Each GM is in charge of creating and maintaining a planet or a small system.  If you’re playing on a planet, the GM assigned to that planet will be your guide by creating plots, challenges, providing descriptions, judging and calling for rolls, and clarifying rules.  There are a select couple of GMs, the site’s Admins, that will act as “the galaxy’s GM” per se, which basically involves making sure all of the GMs’ stories can functionally and logically coexist in the same game.  Space combat not near a planet is also governed by these GMs.  Any of these individuals are great resources for you, but you should always consult your planet’s assigned GM first.  On a planet?  The GM plans it (kill me).

Upon arriving at or spawning on a planet, it is a good idea to let your GM know.  That way they can be quick to prompt you with any information or developments to your tale.

It is important to acknowledge your Game Master’s style and intentions when roleplaying under their wing.  Each planet comes with a description by your Game Master that also details what you should be expecting from their adventures.  This includes difficulty level, which implies the challenge rating of enemies and the environment as well as how intensive their style of GMing is.  Difficulties range from Casual, Moderate, to Challenging.  Planet descriptions also include the genres of adventure that the GM prefers, which might range from stealthy infiltrations to large-scale battlefields to flirty Twi’leks at the cantina.

Situations will arise when an adventure on one planet leads to traveling to another planet.  Or, a newer character who prefers social topics wishes to meet a friend on a planet whose Challenging-rated GM averages 7 explosions per topic.  In these situations, a GM may allow another GM to lead part of an adventure on their planet.  This is considered an extremely kind gesture and should be avoided when possible out of respect for that GM’s domain.  It should be commonplace for one GM’s plot to be concluded by another just as a GM should consider short-term flexibility in difficulty and tendencies to accommodate players.  All in all, GMs can be flexible, but their planet is their domain.

Game Masters essentially run the site, and they contribute permanent creative additions.  Applications are usually only considered for trusted, well-known individuals with a history in the community who can be vouched for by other GMs.  The number of GMs and the amount of planets they are allowed to officiate will vary with the player base.
